About Us

Our History

Tocaloma was established in 1945 so that young people could enjoy instruction in a variety of activities which would encourage physical growth, develop values, and foster a positive self-image. Throughout the years, Tocaloma has operated schools and camps, which have become the hallmark for children’s programs in Southern California.

Today, Tocaloma continues to provide the same dedicated staff and extensive programs that have been enjoyed by four generations. We hope your child will join us and become a part of our tradition and our future.

Facilities

Our exclusive 66 acre campsite offers lush green lawns, both an indoor and outdoor theatre, a football field, baseball diamond, swimming pool with a large instructional shallow end, basketball and tennis courts, hiking trails, 3 playgrounds, and plenty of indoor, air-conditioned classroom space.

We offer a spacious, natural environment coupled with all the conveniences of a gated, modern facility. Just off the 405 on Mulholland at the Berkeley Hall School, Tocaloma is convenient to both Westside and Valley neighborhoods.

Our Staff

When Tocaloma was founded in 1945, there was one goal: to offer the finest day camp possible. In reaching for that goal, a more nurturing and challenging experience has evolved. One that allows for individual differences in ability and enjoyment and still remains true to the values of fair play, adventure, and mutual respect and friendship.

More important than the beauty of our exclusive site and more valuable than our varied program is our fun and caring staff. We continually strive to provide enthusiastic, outgoing, and mature staff who are passionate about promoting the success and happiness of each camper. Our staff are at least 18 years old and have been carefully screened and selected for character, enthusiasm, maturity, experience, and the ability to work with and understand children. Staff training is comprehensive and includes workshops in developmentally appropriate activities and instruction, facilitating friendships, role playing, conflict resolution techniques, group dynamics, risk management, as well as camp policy and procedure. Staff evaluation and training continue throughout the summer to ensure that our staff continues to thrive and to provide your camper with a fun and memorable experience.
